According to a new report, Snap and Meta are poised to showcase their latest AR-powered smart glasses in September, signaling the next step in augmented reality (AR) technology. The upcoming launches suggest renewed interest in smart glasses, following years of improvement in AR capabilities.
Snap is expected to unveil its fifth-generation Spectacles on September 17th at the Partner Summit in Los Angeles. This release follows the Spectacles 4, which introduced integrated AR screens. While details on the Spectacles 5 remain limited, expectations are high for further AR advancements.
Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is preparing to reveal its AR glasses, codenamed Orion, at the Connect conference on September 25th. Though this will be Meta’s first official AR glasses, the company has vast experience in AR and VR through its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses collaboration. Orion is anticipated to be a leap forward in consumer AR technology.
Both companies will likely release limited quantities for testing, signaling that fully commercialized AR glasses are still on the horizon.
