Apple has taken the wraps off its latest iPad Pros, delivering significant design changes, improved hardware, and a notable display upgrade. At the “Let Loose” virtual event on May 7, 2024, Apple announced new 13-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro models, now with OLED screens and the thinnest design in the company’s history.
The switch to OLED brings a whole new level of visual quality to Apple’s flagship tablets.
The OLED technology delivers perfect blacks, richer colors, and enhanced contrast, offering an exceptional viewing experience. This upgrade is particularly welcome for fans of the 11-inch model, which previously lacked the display quality of its larger counterpart. Both models now feature a tandem OLED structure that can reach 1,000 nits of peak full-screen brightness and 1,600 nits for HDR content.
Apple’s new 13-inch iPad Pro is only 5.1 millimeters thick, while the 11-inch is 5.3 millimeters, making them the thinnest iPad Pros ever. Despite their slim profile, the tablets are packed with power, thanks to the new M4 chip. The M4 provides a 50% increase in CPU performance over the previous M2 chip, while also boasting 20% improved thermal performance. This makes the new iPad Pros not only sleek but also significantly faster and more efficient.
Base storage for both iPad Pro models has been increased to 256GB, with prices starting at $999 for the 11-inch and $1,299 for the 13-inch.
The top-end configuration with all the bells and whistles, including 5G and a nano-texture glass coating, can reach a premium price of $2,599 before accessories. Preorders are open, and the new iPad Pros will be available in stores on May 15th.
Apple has also made a crucial adjustment by moving the front-facing camera to the landscape position, a much-requested feature for video calls and FaceTime. This small but significant change improves usability and ensures a more natural experience during virtual meetings.
The accessory lineup has also received an upgrade.
The new Magic Keyboard features an aluminum palm rest and a function key row, adding a touch of premium feel to the keyboard experience. The Apple Pencil Pro now includes squeeze gestures, haptic feedback, and Find My location tracking, offering enhanced functionality for artists and professionals.
