SpaceX has launched the third generation of its groundbreaking Starlink terminal, marking a leap forward in design and functionality. The new version sheds its motor for position adjustments, opting for a streamlined stand. Currently, this innovation is exclusively available to a select group of buyers in the United States.
The upgraded terminal boasts a 10% increase in its field of view, providing users with a broader perspective. Notably, SpaceX has enhanced its protection against dust and moisture, elevating it to an IP67 rating compared to its predecessor’s IP54. This enhancement allows the terminal to withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for half an hour.
In a departure from previous versions, SpaceX recommends users determine the optimal satellite position using a smartphone and manually align the terminal using the provided stand. The device, designed for residential users, supports a range of everyday internet applications, including streaming, video calling, and online gaming.
